Core defined - the muscle belt including abdominals, side and back muscles, pelvic floor and diaphragm.

  • It is essential for athletes to develop a strong core to not only protect their spine, but also a strong core decreases the chance of extremity injuries (from rotator cuff to sprained ankles).
  • Power movements are initiated from the core to our extremities.
  • If our essential core muscles are late in firing or do not fire then energy leaks take place. It is impossible to maximize power with energy leaks.

If our core is weak then we are at a much greater risk of injury...not only at the spine but the extremities as well.  For example, If a baseball pitcher is not utilizing his core musculature then he not only is more susceptible to a rotator cuff injury but he won't be able to throw nearly as hard or have the endurance to throw as long.  Core training is essential for any sport and the Core Contractor is an excellent tool to work  the key components of the "core".

Many athletes today are experiencing back pain.  One reason is that we simply do not warm up the lower back effectively prior to exercise.  Another reason is the heavy loads top athletes are placing on their bodies and the lack of strong key musculature in non "glory" muscles.  And finally the low back is not an area that can be given motion easily and safely, UNTIL NOW.
